Terms of use
Last updated: March 2026
Acceptance
By using Quipd, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the app.
The service
Quipd is a daily creative writing app. Each day, a word appears. You may write a six-word response using that word. Responses are visible to all users. The most-hearted response influences the next day's word through an automated algorithm that selects an interesting word from that response.
Age requirements
Quipd is rated 12+ on the App Store. By using the app, you confirm that you are at least 12 years old. If you are under 18, you should review these terms with a parent or guardian. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13 in compliance with COPPA.
Your content
You retain ownership of the six-word responses you submit. By submitting a response, you grant Quipd a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to:
- Display your response within the app and on quipd.app
- Include your response in share cards generated by users
- Preserve winning responses indefinitely as part of the word chain history
- Use winning responses in promotional materials (without personal attribution)
This licence is needed for the app to function. Non-winning responses are automatically deleted after 48 hours.
Content guidelines
You agree not to submit responses that contain:
- Hate speech, threats, harassment, or discriminatory language
- Sexually explicit content
- Personal information about others
- Spam, advertising, or promotional material
- Content that violates any applicable law
Quipd uses an automated profanity filter that may block submissions containing inappropriate language. If your response is blocked, you will be notified and can revise it. The filter checks for common profanity, slurs, and attempts to bypass filtering using character substitutions.
Reporting and moderation
Users may report responses they believe violate these guidelines. Responses that receive three or more reports are automatically hidden from view. We review hidden content and may permanently remove it or restore it based on our assessment. You will not be notified if your response is reported or hidden.
You may also block other users. Blocking prevents you from seeing their responses. Blocks are one-way and the other user will not be notified.
Enforcement
Violations of these terms may result in content removal or device restrictions:
- First violation: Response removed, no further action
- Second violation: Response removed, warning issued
- Third violation: Device blocked from submitting for 7 days
- Subsequent violations: Device permanently blocked
Severe violations (threats, illegal content) may result in immediate permanent blocking. If you believe your device was blocked in error, contact support@quipd.app to appeal. Appeals are reviewed within 7 days.
Data and infrastructure
Quipd stores data using Apple CloudKit, a cloud database service provided by Apple Inc. Your responses and anonymous device token are stored in CloudKit's public database. Data may be stored in data centres located in the United States or other regions where Apple operates infrastructure. Apple's security standards and privacy practices apply to all stored data. See Apple's Privacy Policy for details.

Quipd offers the following in-app purchases:

All purchases are processed by Apple through the App Store and are subject to Apple's Terms and Conditions. For refunds, contact Apple directly through the App Store. Tip jar purchases are voluntary contributions and are non-refundable.

Your use of Quipd is also subject to the terms and policies of these services.
Availability and termination
We aim to keep Quipd available at all times, but we do not guarantee uninterrupted service. The daily word may occasionally be delayed.
We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue any aspect of the service. If we permanently discontinue the service, we will provide at least 30 days notice via the app or email (if you have contacted support). Quipd+ purchases are non-refundable upon service discontinuation, but we will make reasonable efforts to provide advance notice.
Limitation of liability
Quipd is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. We are not liable for any damages arising from your use of the app, including but not limited to loss of data, loss of revenue, or any indirect or consequential damages. Our total liability is limited to the amount you paid for Quipd+ or tips, if any.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of New South Wales, Australia. Any disputes will be resolved in the courts of New South Wales, Australia.
Changes
We may update these terms from time to time. Material changes will be communicated via the app at least 14 days before taking effect. Continued use of Quipd after changes constitutes acceptance. The current version is always available at quipd.app/terms.
