Getting started

What is Quipd? +
Quipd is a daily six-word journal with mood tracking. Every day, one word appears. You write exactly six words using it. Keep entries private in your journal, or share publicly to see how everyone else used the same word. Tag your mood to track emotional patterns over time. The most-hearted public response breeds tomorrow's word, creating an endless chain.
Do I need an account? +
No. Quipd uses an anonymous device token — a random ID stored on your device. You don't need to sign up, log in, or provide any personal information. Just open the app and start writing.
When does the word change? +
A new word appears every day at midnight UTC. Depending on your timezone, this might be early morning or late evening. The app shows a countdown timer so you always know when the next word arrives.
Why can't I see other responses? +
You need to write your own six words first. This is by design — everyone contributes before consuming. Once you submit your response, the reveal unlocks and you can browse what everyone else wrote.

Writing and responses

Can I edit my response after submitting? +
No. Once submitted, your six words are final. This is intentional — it encourages you to think carefully before sharing. You get one response per day.
Do I have to use today's word? +
Yes. Your six-word response must include today's word. The app checks for this before allowing you to submit.
Why was my response blocked? +
Quipd has an automated profanity filter that checks for inappropriate language before you submit. The filter detects common profanity, slurs, and attempts to bypass filtering using character substitutions (like using numbers for letters). If your response is blocked, you'll see a message and can revise it. The filter runs locally on your device — blocked content is never sent to our servers.
What happens to my responses? +
Your responses are visible to all users for 48 hours, then they're automatically deleted. The only thing that persists is the daily word chain — if your response wins (most hearts), the word picked from it becomes tomorrow's word and your response is preserved as the source.
How is tomorrow's word chosen? +
At midnight UTC, our automated system finds today's most-hearted response. It picks the most interesting word from that response — excluding common words like "the", "and", "is", as well as short words and the current day's word. The algorithm favours longer, less common words. This becomes tomorrow's word, and the community shapes the chain without realising it.

Hearts and the chain

How do hearts work? +
Tap the heart on any response you like. You can heart as many responses as you want, but only once per response. Hearts determine which response wins — the most-hearted response breeds tomorrow's word.
What is the chain? +
The chain is the history of every daily word since Quipd launched. Each word came from the previous day's winning response. Over time, it forms a collective poem: morning → light → carried → silence → hidden → ... You can explore the chain in the Chain tab.
Can I see the full chain history? +
Free users can see the last 7 days of the chain. Quipd+ unlocks the complete chain history back to Day 1.

Quipd+ and purchases

What does Quipd+ include? +
Quipd+ is a subscription that includes: no advertisements ever, full chain history back to Day 1, your complete response history, and unlimited saved favourite quips.
How much does Quipd+ cost? +
Quipd+ is available as a monthly subscription ($0.99 USD/month) or yearly subscription ($9.99 USD/year). The yearly plan offers the best value. Prices may vary by region.
How do I cancel my subscription? +
Subscriptions automatically renew unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. You can manage or cancel your subscription in your Apple ID account settings (Settings → [Your Name] → Subscriptions).
How do I restore my purchase? +
Go to the You tab → Settings → Restore Purchases. This uses your Apple ID to verify your subscription. Make sure you're signed into the same Apple ID you used to subscribe to Quipd+.
How do I request a refund? +
Refunds are handled by Apple. Go to reportaproblem.apple.com, sign in with your Apple ID, find the Quipd purchase, and request a refund. We don't have access to process refunds directly.

Reporting and safety

How do I report an inappropriate response? +
Tap and hold (long-press) any response in the feed, then select "Report." Responses with 3 or more reports are automatically hidden from all users. We review hidden content and may permanently remove it or restore it.
Why was my response removed? +
Responses may be removed if they receive 3 or more reports from other users or if they violate our content guidelines (hate speech, threats, harassment, spam, sexually explicit content). You won't receive a notification when your response is hidden or removed. If you believe your response was removed in error, contact us via email to appeal.
What happens if my response gets reported? +
Responses that receive multiple reports are automatically hidden from the community. You can still see your own response, but it won't appear in the feed for others. We review reports to assess their validity and may restore content that was incorrectly flagged. If you believe your response was hidden in error, contact support to appeal.

Technical

What devices are supported? +
Quipd requires iOS 17.0 or iPadOS 17.0 or later. It works on iPhone and iPad. The iPad version features an adaptive layout — sidebar navigation in landscape, single column in portrait, with larger fonts and multi-column grids optimised for the larger screen.
Does Quipd work offline? +
You can view today's word and your cached responses offline, but submitting a new response and loading the feed requires an internet connection. The app will show an "Offline mode" banner when you're disconnected.
I switched phones. Can I transfer my streak? +
Streaks are tied to your anonymous device token, which is stored locally on your device. If you switch phones, your streak will reset. We're exploring ways to preserve streaks across devices in a future update. Your Quipd+ purchase can be restored on your new device using Restore Purchases.
Why do I see an ad after submitting? +
Free users see one interstitial ad per day, shown after submitting a response. This helps support Quipd's development. The ad appears for a few seconds before showing you other responses. Quipd+ removes all ads.
How do I report a bug? +
Email us at support@quipd.app with a description of the issue. Please include your device model (e.g., iPhone 15), iOS version (e.g., iOS 17.4), and steps to reproduce the bug if possible. Screenshots are helpful too.
